My Eyebrow Piercing (Pierced Jan.24, 2004)
After my experience with my navel piercing was over (
here ), I found my need for piercings
satiated for the time being. It didn't last very long though. Just four months
after I had gotten my navel pierced, I begin to make a list of piercings that I
wanted. I began to sketch my face with different piercings, trying to decide
which looked best, and which I truly wanted to get. I waited for quite a long
time before actually getting another, but I figured that I wanted to be
responisible about it. I wanted to be sure that I thought everything through,
and decided that without a doubt, these were things that I wanted for myself.
Finally, after almost three years, I decided that I was ready to start
shortening my list.
I received $200 from my mom as a birthday present. She gave it to me almost two
weeks early. What better time than when I could afford it? So I approached my
mom, knowing that she would say yes, and wondering if she would decide we needed
to tell my dad or not. She asked me what I wanted to get this time, and I told
her that I wanted my eyebrow done. She was a little iffy, seeing as how it is a
very visual piercing, but she trusts my judgement, and trusts that I know what I
want, so she said yes. Then came the surprise. She said that we didn't have to
tell my dad.
Since nothing was standing in my way, we hopped into the car early Saturday
afternoon, and drove down to Blue Boutique. We walked back to the piercing
section of the store and waited for the girl working at the counter to finish up
with a couple of guys who were there to get their septums pierced, then it was
my turn. I told her what I wanted, and who I wanted to do it. She handed me the
same old paperwork to fill out while she scanned both my and my mom's driver's
licenses. Jesse came out to help me pick out what jewelry would best fit me, and
then with a smile, told me to have a seat, or look around while he got
everything sterilized. We paid $60, the same that we paid for my navel, and then
began looking around the store.
After about ten minutes, he came out looking for me, and I followed him on the
familiar walk to his piercing room. He shut the door behind us, once the three
of us were in the room, and I hopped onto that same tiger-print table. He
started by explaining the entire procedure, and went through the aftercare
instructions, then asked me if I had any questions. I told him I didn't, so he
put on a pair of latex gloves, pulled out his marking tools, and marked the
entrance and exit holes. He looked and looked, and probably changed them about
five or six times, making sure that they were going to look the best possible,
then asked me to look at the marks. I got up, and while I was looking, he
changed his gloves. I told him that they looked fine, and then got back up on
the table.
He asked me to lay down and tilt my head a little bit to the left. I could tell
when he picked up the needle, because my mom squeezed my hand harder than when
she had gotten her tat. He told me to start breathing deeply and slowly, and
told me that I would feel him setting up. Then the familiar words that I am sure
all people who get piercings have come to recognize, "Okay, one more deep
breath..."
I breathed in deeply, and as I began to exhale, he said, "You're going to feel a
little pinch." He slid the needle through, and it was almost over. The pain from
the piercing was barely enough to make me cringe, which surprised me since I
thought that it would hurt a lot worse. Though, I guess you always think the
pain will be worse than it ends up being. I do, anyway. He slid the needle back
out and put the jewelry in. It stung a little as he screwed the ball on, but the
pain was over in a flash. He took my arm and helped me to sit up, saying that
some people tend to get light-headed with eyebrow piercings so to take it easy.
I asked mom what she thought, and she loved it. I looked in the mirror, and was
ecstatic. There I was, with a beautiful piece of metal in my eyebrow.
The entire day, I was on this euphoric high. It may have been the adrenaline,
but I loved it. I can honestly say that piercings are addicting, and an absolute
joy to experience. The pain level of this one was about a 5 on a scale of 1-10.
It didn't bleed, and it hasn't had any problems with healing, or migration so
far. *knock on wood* Anyone thinking about getting their eyebrow pierced, I
highly recommend it.
